Everything good but nothing striking is an "A-OK" rating, right? The best thing of this place seems to be the wait staff. Very professional and kind. Food was good, but I won't choose this place if an authentic Thai is what I am looking for. The decor is a bit old fashioned (outdated!?) but it's comfortable and gives good privacy. Good restaurant, not so authentic, but at the end everything is just alright

First off, Surin is one of my favorite restaurants. I have been to at least 5 locations in Alabama. They do a pretty good job at being consistent. My (only) problem with this location is that the drinks are 1/2 the size as other locations but they are the same price. But this location has something I havent found at any other!! 1) they serve a pot of chicken and rice. The chicken is steamed or cooked under the rice. It is just so delicious I cannot describe it. 2) they serve salmon and asparagus for the health conscious eaters.

Did not live up to expectations. Given the dinner prices, the atmosphere is somewhat cheap with the decor. Also can get somewhat loud. I had their duck curry and it does not match that found in Surin West downtown. Dishes are extremely overpriced for what they are. You don't even get a coconut coup with your dinner entree. Probably won't return.

I was teetering on giving this location a three star based on my last visit. But since everything has been great all other times, I will stick with the 4 stars on overall experience. So right out of the gate, it is part of the Surin family of restaurants. So you know you are going to get high quality Thai food. We have our typical go-to dishes and rarely waiver outside of that. We always view Surin as a treat when and where ever we go. Basil rolls=the bomb. Super Crunch Roll=A gift of diamonds for your taste buds. Thai noodles=long strands of deliciousness filled with chicken and shrimp. As for the bad from this experience. Of course when we are in a take-out mood, the discussion of where/what you want is always over thought. And when a decision is finally made, your mind, heart, and stomach are set on that. So when we called 5 times... yes 5 times, no one answered the phone. We even waited in between calls to make sure it wasn't because the hold line was too long. It was not anywhere close to closing time so I assumed something was wrong and they had to close early. So the discussion of where else to grab dinner started and we finally decided to try one more time.... JACKPOT! Still don't know why. But not good practice for a place that does a significant amount of take-out. We went for our typical three listed about. We LOVE the basil rolls. Which typically comes with shrimp. But not on this out of the ordinary Surinsperience. Oh and Thai noodles typically have a fair amount of shrimp... this time, 2. Now it is understandable if you are low on shrimp and can't produce them from thin air. But when you finally answer the phone and that person orders two things with shrimp, it would be good customer service to let that person know!! Or at least when they pick it up. But they decided "let's short them some shrimp to which they won't find out until they get home and can't do anything about it". Evil... pure evil. When you are hungry, shrimp are like GOLD!! Since this is exception and not the rule in our Surin experiences, we will certainly be back. But I am going to request those shrimp we were short be added to our next order. And all will be right with the universe again.

I returned to Surin. This time I got the lunch special #4 on Sunday. This comprised a bowl of coconut soup, a fancy tuna roll, and a California roll. I must say that the coconut soup is excellent! Highly recommended! The rolls were well made and reasonably fresh. It was a fine sushi meal. See my original review.

Great food at the Birmingham location. I have never been to the location on 280, but I am sure it is just as tasty. Surin is one of my favorite restaurants because I trust the food there. I have never had a bad meal and have been many times. This shows consistency in the restaurant. I really going each time!

I wouldn't have known good sushi existed had it not been for Surin setting the bar somewhat low. Perhaps that's my fault... Regardless: I find Surin to be overpriced and underwhelming, but not without a few treats (Crab Angels, Thai Iced Tea, Angel Wing). Everyone else seems to love it so to each his own, caveat emptor, etc.

Surin has decent Thai food. The restaurant itself isn't very nice, but they charge premium prices. Surin used to be a nice, semi-fancy place to eat. Now the portions get smaller and the prices keep going up, all while quality slowly dwindles. I hate to see it go, but Surin won't be open for another 5 years if they don't improve themselves.

Like all Surin establishments in town this one is sure to impress. Everytime you enter a Surin you are greeted with the best smells. I am a spicy beef noodle addict and hate to admit it but that is my regular go to dish because I know I'll have enough left for leftovers. I have tried the sushi and it is always good. Hummmm now I want spicy beef noodle!

Until recently, I've visited every Surin location in Birmingham except for this one. I'll be honest and let you know that I'm not very familiar with the Crestline area, but it sure was a busy place for a Monday night! I walked up and down Church Street and probably looked extremely confused because a gentleman asked what I was looking for. When I replied that I was trying to find Surin, he chuckled and said "I'm not surprised, it's kind of hidden but is still in plain view" and pointed me towards it. Helpful hint: Surin doesn't have a big sign outside, just the name on the windows. I was the first to arrive in the group I was meeting and our server kept checking on me to make sure I didn't want a drink or an appetizer. I appreciated this as it kept me company while I waited! The chicken masaman is usually my go to dish at any of the Surin locations, but I wanted to try what my dining companions said that they always get - the Thai noodles. I have zero complaints about this dish. It wasn't greasy like other Thai noodle meals I've eaten, it had a surprisingly decent amount of chicken and shrimp, the sauce used didn't drown the noodles, and I had leftovers for lunch the next day. I've never had a bad meal at any of locations, so I'm starting to think that you really can't go wrong if you want Thai and go to Surin.

I have eaten at many Thai places and the chicken panang curry here is by FAR my favorite that I have ever tried. It has a great flavor and the sauce is creamy. They also have delicious sushi and soup here. This is my favorite Thai place and I crave it constantly.

The best of the Surins in my opinion. Ask for Carlton - He is a top notch server and always makes our experience amazing. I could eat here every day!

This is where you go to get all the best of the Surin menu, but without the hassle of a large wait, parking or crowd of the 5 Pts location. Don't leave this place without ordering Spicy Coconut Chicken Soup! My husband has a pro-tip of ordering without mushrooms in order to get "more actual soup". Whatever that's worth :]

My favorite Thai in town. I worked at the 5 points location for 3.5 years and still love Surin West, but Surin of Thailand has a really nice ambience....more laid back and intimate. It's my go do date night dinner. Try the coconut tofu soup. It's the best soup in town! Spicy beef salad is really delicious, and I love the crab angels! Great sushi too. Try their super crunch!

Whenever I would come home from college or when I lived out of town, I knew that my favorite items from Surin would be waiting on my parent's kitchen counter as soon as I walked in the door. I guess Thai food is my "meatloaf and mashed potatoes..." I always order the same thing: tofu-only coconut soup and chicken masaman curry. The chicken masaman isn't on the dinner menu (it is on the lunch menu though), but you can order it at any time. I took it upon myself to become a chicken masaman aficionado, and in all of my experiences, not one has overtaken Surin. Part of the reason for this is that they use avocados in the dish, while most places use potatoes. Surin of Thailand is the Crestline Village outpost of the original, Surin West in 5 Points, but the food is every bit as good. I've tried the sushi and enjoyed it. I'm more of a Thai takeout person, but eating in the restaurant is ok (and just ok). The wine list is mediocre, and things feel a bit awkward and sterile despite the dimly lit interior. But, given the location, it is a bit social and most people run into someone they know. For all things Thai, go to Surin! Call ahead, fight for coveted Crestline Village parking, run into the door and straight to the back bar (aka the takeout checkout place), get your grub and go!

So after having lofty expectations from Top Spice in Atlanta, I entered my experience with Surin with some trepidation, After all, Thai can go tragically wrong in the wrong hands. Most who have had Thai also have ha that friend who swears they can recreate that authentic taste in their own kitchen, and you are relegated to enjoying spicy nuggets of a substance resembling the texture of toothpaste, combined with a battery acid sauce. Otherwise known as subpar. Surin, fortunately, is not this experience, the menu is vast, with a wide variety of choices, including sushi. I hear the spicy spaghetti is quite good. I had the coconut soup appetizer which was very tasty, and for my main dish had Chicken Panang Curry, but hopped up to 2 spicy chile's in my order. The chicken was tender, the sauce perfectly balanced, and just the right amount of spice. This was a very good dish. The server was very friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was positive. This is a great Thai place and I'd imagine one would be hard pressed to find better Thai food in Birmingham.

Food: overall good on the Crab Angel and the Sushi. The Steak Salad was medium. Atmosphere: typical lunch joint, nothing fancy but nice enough and casual. Recommend this if you want a quick and decent Asian lunch.

We bought a Groupon, which I told the waiter when we sad down. AFTER we ate, they said we could not use it during happy hour. BS! It didn't say that anywhere on the Groupon. Talked to the manager and he was not helpful. I would say the food was a 3, not terrible, but really not the best, although I didn't have the sushi. Also, parking is a problem.

I liked this place before I went to Thailand and now even more after having something to compare it to. This is the real deal in terms of Thai flavors. For the longest time I could not get past the masaman shrimp, which is one of my all-time favorites. This location also makes a wonderfully fragrant Kao Mok Kai, a mint sauce over very tender chicken and rice. Over the years they have expanded the sushi offerings and the super crunch is a delightful example of americanization that results in something unique and tasty, though perhaps not for sushi purists. The martini selection is also wide and they'll gladly make variations to your liking. On top of that the price is right and the service is usually quite good. Although not a top tier kind of place it doesn't pretend to be. If you want delicious food in a nice location with reliably good service, this is your place.

I absolutely love Surin. However, this location in particular is worth the hassle just for the coconut soup. I don't know why it is so much better here, but it is! My other favorites are the Chicken Noodle Bowl and the Spicy Beef Salad.

The best sushi in Birmingham. The coconut soup is amazing. Always solid food, but the service at all locations is hit or miss.

I had high hopes for this restaurant and was sorely disappointed by the paltry service and mediocre food. Although being seated immediately, we waited and waited and waited for someone on the waitstaff to acknowledge us and fill our water glasses. I ordered a glass of wine with appetizers and didn't get it until midway through our entrees. The waiter had the audacity to say the bar was backed up. However, he had no explanation as to why tables that got seated 15 mins after us got their drinks immediately. I guess I won't be having Thai food in Birmingham.

Get the chicken masaman and the crab angels. I have never been served anything bad here.
